Peninsula Power FC is excited to announce Alex Smith as the new
Head of the Women's Football Program and Premier League Women’s Head
Coach.
The AFC 'A' Licensed Coach has moved
back to Brisbane after working full time at Melbourne City Football Club for
the last two years as W-league Assistant Coach and U14 Head Academy Coach. He
has also previously worked in coaching roles at Brisbane Roar W-League before
heading to Victoria.
“I am delighted to join this fantastic club and to get started building a
strong women’s program at Power. It is a very exciting project and the club has
made clear their desire to have a successful playing and coaching program”
Smith said
There are no illusions as to where the
program is at, my job is to show everyone where we are going and how we will
get there. It is a challenge I look forward to taking on.
I am extremely passionate about the
Women’s Game and will use all my experience from the W League to make sure the
program improves each week. My aim is to create the most professional
environment I can, using all the resources the club has to offer. Exciting
times ahead.
After Smith retired from a professional
playing career spanning 10 years which included playing in the USA Major League
Soccer and A-League competitions, he now looks forward to passing this
knowledge and experience on through to the next generation. "These are
exciting times in the World Game for Women and Girls football with the World
Cup coming to Australia in 2023 and I am looking forward to working with the
players and coaches at Peninsula Power.”
Club President Craig Feuerriegel said “This has been a goal of the club to secure a coach with the experience and passion for women’s football as we continue to rebuild our NPLW program. As the Head of the Power Women’s Football Coaching Program, Smith will oversee a number of key responsibilities, including Women’s NPLW Head Coach role, player recruitment, coaching education, junior girl’s academy and female player development. Our club is very committed to the development and progression of the Women’s Game here in Queensland".
