Match Preview: Power host Brisbane City in top-of-the-table clash in Female Football Week

After a gritty win over Mitchelton FC last Sunday night, our Peninsula Power Women are set for a top-of-the-table clash with fellow promotion hopefuls, Brisbane City, this Saturday.

Our women come into the game five points clear of the trailing Brisbane City having won all of our league games without conceding a goal.

It was tough going on Sunday evening as we travelled to Teralba Park eventually coming out two-goal victors.

A player of the match performance from keeper, Liz Harrington including a penalty save and goals from defenders Tegan Van Vegchel and Kirrily Phillips was enough to hand our side the victory.

It's a new challenge this weekend however, as we take on Brisbane City as we look to continue our perfect run and edge closer to promotion putting daylight between us and the chasing pack.

A consistent force at the back for us this season, Captain Tegan Van Vegchel is excited for the marquee matchup.

"Just like every top of the table clash, it will be a very exciting and competitive game not only to play but also watch.

"We just need to make sure we don't get complacent and go into the match with the right mentality so we can continue our undefeated streak.

"City will be another tough game and we're going to need a big defensive effort whilst being clinical up front and finishing our chances."

After winning FQPL Coach of the Month for March and April,  Head Coach, Alex Smith, is excited to see how his players face the music on Saturday.

"Very much looking forward to Saturday, another great test for our players.

"I know it's very cliche, but we have to keep consistent in the way we play and the things we are trying to accomplish within the game.

"City have started well similar to us and will be a tough opponent.

"For us, it's about how we want to play and what we do off the ball that is most important."

Last time we faced Brisbane City, was in the round eight of the FQPL Women's season as the Azzuri travelled to AJ Kelly Park.

Despite a valiant effort, our girls were defeated by three goals.
