Former England Youth International signs for Power

HABERGHAMBANNER
Former Norwich City Fullback, Sam Habergham has signed for Peninsula Power ahead of the 2022 NPL Season to bolster our title defence.

Habergham played throughout England over his years, starting off in the Norwich City academy at the age of seven before promoted into the first team set up in 2009.

Following that, the Englishman spent 10 years playing with Tamworth FC, Braintree Town, Grimsby Town, and most famously, Lincoln City.

In his time at Lincoln City, Habergham played a key role in the clubs historic run to the quarter finals of the FA Cup in the 2016/17 season.

Lincoln City Beat Championship side Ipswich Town, in a replay, after progressing past Guiseley, Altrincham and Oldham Athletic, before defeating then Championship leaders and current Premier League side, Brighton and Hove Albion to make the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since the end of the Victorian era.

Lincoln then faced Premier League opposition, beating Sean Dyche's Burnley 1-0 to historically go through to the FA Cup quarter final, the first time a non-league club had progressed to the last eight since 1914.

The Imps travelled to the Emirates to face one of the biggest sides in the world in the quarter finals, Arsenal FC losing 5-0 in the end but winning over the hearts of football fans everywhere.

Arsenal went on to win the FA Cup that year defeating Chelseas 2-1 in the final.

Habergham played a key role for the Imps, starting in every game on their run to the Quarter Finals.

In addition to putting on a show in the cup with Lincoln, Habergham also has EFL Checkatrade Trophy, EFL League Two and National League Winner's medals on his mantlepiece.

Adding to his already extensive CV, Habergham is also an England Youth International, representing the England U17's on three Occasions as well as the England C team twice.

Prior to coming to Australia and joining Peninsula Power, Habergham recently trialled with Portsmouth last year before coming down under.

The 30-year-old from Rotherham is looking forward to the new challenge that is presented in front of him.

“I have always wanted to play football abroad and experience something different.

"Peninsula Power have been a very successful club and have welcomed me into the club and I'm looking forward to the season."

Senior Director of Football, Ben Ryan is ecstatic to have a player of Habergham's quality and experience join the squad.

"It's not often that a player of Sam's calibre becomes available at this level.

"We were alerted to him by ex Brisbane City Coach, Nick Green and we moved quickly to get it done."

In addition to his extensive playing career in the UK, Habergham has coached throughout English Academies and currently holds his UEFA A Licence.

"His experience in England, plus his coaching background will be a valuable addition to the group."
