Head of Women's Football, Alex Smith, commits to Peninsula Power for the long haul after taking over the female football program for the tail end of 2021.
The AFC 'A' Licensed Coach moved back to Queensland after working full time at Melbourne City Football Club as A-League Women's Assistant Coach and U14 Head Academy Coach.
Prior to joining Melbourne City, Alex also previously worked in coaching roles at Brisbane Roar A-League Women's.
Our Women's program experienced a great amount of upturn following the arrival of Alex Smith and will continue to do so going forward.
Smith has been pro-active with recruitment for the upcoming campaign and strongly believes the program is headed in the right direction.
"When I joined mid-season, I knew this was a long term project, so I am very excited to sign on for three years.
"This deal shows real commitment from the club and myself.
"Our vision is to produce one of the best female programs in the country."
Alex Smith is already delighted with the journey the program has been on, however, he is excited for the road that lies ahead.
"The progress we have made as a program is something I'm already proud of.
"2022 promises to be a year of improvement and growth.
"We have doubled in size and have some very talented girls coming through the program.
"Really looking forward to the future and working hard to achieve our goals."
Club President, Craig Feuerriegel, has backed Alex Smith with great confidence and truly believes that the future of Women's Football at Peninsula Power is in safe hands.
"The football program Alex Smith is building is very exciting for Power!
"His professional experience in the A-League Women's with Melbourne City and the Brisbane Roar has seen the Peninsula Power Women's Program rapidly grow and raise the bar for female players wanting to develop under one of the best coaches in Queensland."
